You can always identify those who not only enjoy their job, but who are excellent at what they do and passionate about doing things right - not simply actors playing a part and reading a script. It is a really wrong way to alter, whenever you want to alter pants or jeans just tighten it from two sides just next to side packets, there is a seam on both sides.

Great video! I have a Harris Tweed jacket I got at the thrift store that needs sleeves shortened. Otherwise, it fits well. Although I’ve never tailored sleeves before, I feel confident I can make this gem of a jacket look like it was made for me. Thanks!

I need to slim down pretty much all of my jackets that were supposedly my size. I hate the lazy "boyfriend" cut. The sleeve heads are way off of my shoulders. The length of the shoulders are also too long

Done one pair as instructed here was a huge struggle first time as usual with stuff but it's come out fine. Said make sure when sewing up the crutch seam that the top ends line up. But they don't because the back panel top is curved up. Had me flummoxed but it simply means more seam allowance on one side of the top ends of the vertical panels. I did not know to assess how much to take in so did it by calculation. From paper pattern adjustment charts for every two inches off waist is one and a quarter off thigh circumference. Looks like a balanced fullness front and back once done. Next time do it in a.fraction of the time. Really useful thing to learn on clothes adjustment. Thank you!

There is an iron on tape that you can use to prevent stretching. It will stretch. Also if you use a narrow but longer zig zag stitch it will have some stretch and the thread won’t pop.

I have been wearing suits regularly since I was a teenager. I am 52 currently and recently went to work at a Jos A Bank location. I must have nearly 40 suits, all of which are very nice. The MAJORITY of those are $10 Goodwill finds. So far, I have found a Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta, Pierre Cardin, Ralph Lauren, 2 Jos A Banks, and a gorgeous cobalt blue Tommy Hilfiger. All in great shape and all $10!! I have learned so much already from watching your videos. I kinda had to learn myself as our tailor unexpectedly quit. These vids have been PRICELESS!

Since you’ve been doing videos for awhile, would you consider revisiting some of these older videos and filming with better camera angles, framing, and a slightly more in depth look at some of the featured techniques? I like this video as it’s the only one I’ve seen so far that talks about starting with the correct fit in the neck and shoulders, and also features unpicking the sleeve and starting the adjustments there.

Plastic / poliester /polyamide / nylon fabrics - use a lighter to melt the edges bit by bit and immediately use needle-nose pliers to flatten the edge for a seamless finish. Natural / celulose / Cotton / Linnen fabrics - use a serger if available or sew 0,5cm bias at the edge of cut to size pattern. Protein / silk - sew 0,5cm bias at the edge of cut to size pattern.

I so admire the rolled up sleeves and vest, knew it was a Tailor shop right away. Gal here, you will probably never need to do this alteration, but after shrinking in the dryer, all my jeans are too short waisted. I want my pants to have the waist covering my belly button so my belt can cinch in my hernia. . . Also I prefer that feel anyway. Inevitably all my pants are an inch too low in back, and I have a small rear. I think women have been taught to accept this fit when pants were more like boy pants, imported from China. Saves fabric, I'm sure. Pants in the 70s and 80s had nice high waists. Except hip huggers, which usually had bell bottoms. But of history. I got a package which allows drawing a pattern with many measurements and some helpful gadgets. It's the only way I will ever have pants that fit. In the 60s and early 70s nearly all women sewed. I know you can't alter a waist higher, unless you open the waistband and face it with another fabric.

Good explanation of hemming on a sewing machine. I bought a blind hemmer forty years ago. I've enjoyed having it because its stitches are invisible.
